Civilian Police

The Marine Corps is looking for a few good people. In fact, they are looking for many good people. In June of 2007, the Marine Corps adopted a plan to begin the hiring of approximately 1,200 Civilian Police Officers. This expansion of civilian policing will reduces the operational stress on Marine Corps Military Police and will enhances security and police services across the Marine Corps.

Since 9/11, all branches of the military have identified greater requirements for police and security to protect the property and the people that are responsibility for the defense of the nation. Limitations on growing the active duty force have resulted in the hiring of civilians to provide Security and Law Enforcement services across the Department of Defense.

The Marine Corps initiated a Civilian Police force in 2005 and has established Marine Corps Police Departments in Albany, GA, Jacksonville, FL, and Barstow, CA. At the close of FY09 there are over 900 Police Officers serving alongside their Marine Military Police counterparts at Marine Corps Installation Provost Marshal Offices across the United States. The new police officer hires continue with a target of hiring 300 in FY10, and 200 in FY11. After FY11, as requirements increase and replacements are needed, we will continue to hire for the foreseeable future. These new police officers will be working side-by-side with Marine Corps Military Police at Marine Corps Installations across the United States.
